Serhiy Savchenko – painting
Oleksiy Khoroshko – media-object
This year, at the International contemporary art festival “GogolFest”, Bottega gallery acted as the curator of several art projects of Ukrainian famous artists, among which there are: common art-project “The Other”, presented by two Lviv artists Serhiy Savchenko (painting) and Oleksiy Khoroshko (media-object). With great success, the project was performed for the first time at the Povidlo Factory during “The week of actual art” in Lviv.
Pictorial works of Serhiy Savchenko – “Singing heads” – are the 2 by 2 meters paintings of acrylic, oil and domestic paint on canvas. Twelve monumental images of human heads, generalized to the geometric circles inscribed into the squares of the paintings represent the ancient mystical “quadrature of circle”. It seems that the figurative decision chosen by the author turns on the sound on full strength, and this renders to the painting one more unknown before “audio-dimension”, bright musical declarative effect. Anxious semantics of mouth apertures, their chore set, monumental scale of the images give the opportunities to break the traditionally established borders of easel painting.
Simultaneously, in the media-object “ME”-“MYSELF”, “ME”-“YOU”, Oleksiy Khoroshko is developing his personal philosophy, basing on the ideas of Jean-Paul Sartre, where “ME” represents the separate independent object. Video-transmission of your own image reproduces the qualities of mirror space. From the other side, video-stream stipulates “OWN” perception as the object, creating the dialogue with own reflection searching for identity and examination of your “OWN”.
That is why it is not accidental that authors appeal to the philosophy of existentialism. The project unites the saying of Jean-Paul Sartre: “I need the other one to completely realize all the structures of my own being”.
